We live exciting times when the technology trends are impacting the world, the global communities (society) we live in, our education systems and our personal lives. This has led to many asking (difficult) questions - what this all means for learning and teaching. Technology changes also mean that new exciting possibilities have opened up. This session sets out to provide a global picture of what is happening around the world and stimulates discussion on how technology supports thinking around changing paradigms of learning, teaching and more importantly the role of being a global citizen.

Session: 21st Century Learning Design through a Technology Lens
Place: ICT Lab E
Date and time: 3rd July @ 08:30
The design of learning experiences is at the heart developing innovative teaching practices. This session will explore three areas below which define innovative teaching:
  • Student-centred pedagogies that promote personalized and powerful learning for students;
  • Extending learning beyond the classroom in ways most relevant to knowledge-building and problem-solving in today’s world; and
  • ICT integration into pedagogy in ways that support learning goals. It is important to note that ICT use is not a goal in itself, but a tool to broaden and deepen learning opportunities.
It will provide teachers with hands-on experience in understanding how collaborative environments such as SkyDrive can enhance learning experiences. This session will allow teachers to explore tools such as Photosynth, Movie Maker, AutoCollage, Microsoft Songsmith and others to develop powerful learning opportunities and support in the development of 21st century skills.

TeachMeet Session: Create System-wide Change. Build Innovative Schools
Place: Lab 4 EDU 15
Date and time: 4th July @15:30
Learn something new; be amazed, amused and enthused. This is an informal gathering of those curious about education, opportunities and challenges. Come and watch or present a 5 minute micro-presentation in a format of your choice. The main part of TeachMeet is hearing stories about learning, from teachers and other education professionals. This is a chance for education professionals to hear ideas from each other, a chance to hear real narratives of practice that makes a difference. It is about being engaged and inspired by our immediate colleagues and gaining a whole bucket load of networking to boot!
